Now that ‘Patriots Are In Control’ and the Trump II regime is conducting immigration raids on churches, schools, and hospitals, some chuds are realizing that their former allies against DEI—people like me and Diane Yap—are suddenly at odds with them. ¿Que? In reality, we were neither racists nor antiracists. We’re actually fashionistas for designer genes, and their ‘face card’ for skin color has been declined.
Nick Land criticized the ‘idiotic’ and ‘hypocritical’ aspects of the ‘racism-antiracism contention’ back in 2014.1 He called Gregory Cochran’s idea of space colonization as a genetic filter that would reshape humanity by capability rather than race a mere ‘thought experiment.’ But earlier this week, the President of the United States promised in his inaugural address to ‘plant the Stars and Stripes on the planet Mars.’
Other social and technological developments over the past decade strongly portend a Landian future that is ‘trans-racial, infra-racial, and hyper-racial,’ rather than a RETVRN to Lothrop Stoddard’s world of human color categories like white, black, yellow, and red. These include the rising prevalence and waning stigma of assisted reproductive technology (ART), interracial marriage, and genomic engineering.
Not Your Grandma’s Assortative Mating
A crude precursor to gene editing, practiced by all of our ancestors, is assortative mating: the tendency to pair with mates who share similar traits. A tall mother and a tall father are more likely to produce a tall child. Land observes that racism advocates for assortative mating based on genetic closeness, while the emerging post-racist trend shifts the focus to socioeconomic status, quantified through correlates like IQ.
Human mate selection has long favored not only similarity but also aspirational traits like health and beauty. This preference becomes explicit in fertility clinics, where women choose sperm donors based on traits like education and income. With preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), parents can take this a step further, screening embryos for mutations in genes that cause sickle cell anemia or cystic fibrosis.
While single-gene testing to prevent diseases like these has been available since the 1990s, the 2010s brought a major leap: with computers, scientists could use ‘polygenic scores’ to predict multi-gene traits like height, intelligence, and personality. Now, unlike with preventing disease, selecting for SES-correlated traits raises tougher ethical dilemmas, as Jonathan Anomaly examines in Creating Future People (2014).
The problems Anomaly considers important are the ‘each-we’ or collective action problems—decisions that may be individually rational (like the liberal use of antibiotics) but have collectively harmful consequences (such as antibiotic-resistant bacteria). By contrast, bioconservatives oppose ART and PGT to preserve the genetic status quo, seeking to either reinforce (racist) or dismantle (antiracist) inequalities.
Big-titty Amish or Aristocratic Brahmin?
A recent viral and highly-ridiculed Tweet accused Vice President Vance of lacking ‘a stake in the future,’ and of being ‘alienated from the future of Americans,’ because his mixed-race biological son doesn’t ‘have earwax like him.’2 The post implied that JD Vance is guilty of genealogical nihilism or vandalism. In reality, his wife, Usha, hails from an elite lineage shaped by multiple levels of selection in both India and America.
People who are rage at interracial marriage miss how much it’s just self-sorting. On average, ‘Whites who date outside their race are slightly dumber, while Blacks/Hispanics who date outside their race are more intelligent.’3 A less adaptive boundary is crossed, while a more adaptive one is reinforced. If this upsets you, think of racemixing like Rumspringa, where the Amish of every race weed out the wavering.
The preferences people express when choosing mates might be short-sighted and skin-deep—failing to consider, for example, how un-aristocratically large breasts might lead to back problems. Anomaly argues that the deliberation involved in using ART leads to better outcomes for children, as ‘parents will presumably care more about their children’s physical health and mental well-being than superficial traits.’
I’ve framed the desire for a healthy family as uncontroversial, but recent COVID vaccine controversies have exposed the death drive of what Land calls the ‘inferior pole.’ Pro-black bioconservatives like antivaxxer ‘Dr.’ Umar Johnson helped kill their Big Mamas and Big Daddys by invoking ‘muh Tuskeegee,’ while more censored pro-white bioconservatives sacrificed Mamaws and Papaws to defy ‘muh Sackler family.’
Neo-speciation and separation
One of the most pressing problems of our time is that the genetically self-filtering elite, like Vivek Vance, are subject to the coercive power of Landian ‘refuse,’ like ‘Dr.’ Umar Johnson, through democracy. The former elite creates high-trust societies where laws are impartially applied, and private property rights are enforced; while the latter ‘refuse’ undermines societal trust by acting as free riders or corrupt politicians.
Yet biotechnological progress in ART marches on, with Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) enabling parents to select embryos for traits associated with polygenic scores. It’s not only intelligence: by targeting receptors that influence hormones such as oxytocin, cortisol, and testosterone—which are linked to empathy and fairness—we will enter a world of unprecedented stratification in both cognitive and moral capacity.
With each generation of genetic enhancement and assortative mating, the bioliberal and bioconservative poles of humanity grow closer to becoming separate species. Even if the great-grandchildren of the Vances and the Johnsons could technically crossbreed, would they still work together effectively? Considering today’s conflicts over relatively minor differences, I favor a future with greater freedom of association.
Attentive readers will notice that my blog’s title image is a callback to this very essay.
I would bet good money that JD and Usha have the same earwax type. The relevant gene is the same one that I profiled in this article about body odor. So the correct distinction would be between ‘Northeast Asians and everyone else,’ instead of ‘Whites and everyone else.’
This quote obviously excludes Asians. If that’s your fetish, click through to the paper where you’ll find nuance, like about how ‘multiracial pairings involving a Black spouse were more likely to get divorced, and those involving an Asian spouse were less likely to get divorced.’
That thumbnail is cursed and triggers my racism
It is possible the US will turn into another “mestizaje” but I think whites will survive in Europe. Remigration is forecasted. Muslims are endogamous and more culturally different, and their birth rates are expected to collapse within the next few decades. European ethnic identity is much stronger. If the welfare state collapses, which it will, there’s no reason for them to stay in Northern Europe. It’s cold, wet, and dark. They’re not properly adapted for this hell on earth. People underestimate how much climate impacts quality of life.
